Wendelin

YOur Calgary Fish Creek PC ALberta Candidate

Friends,

I thank you for your confidence in electing me as the PC Alberta Candidate in Calgary Fish Creek and I look forward to working with the community in our provincial election.

In this website, I have offered insights into my background, my passions and interests, PC Alberta policy, as well as words from individuals across sectors reflecting their confidence in my ability to be effective as an MLA for Calgary Fish Creek.

I created this website as I worked to earn the nomination for Calgary Fish Creek and have continued to add to the site as our team planned for the provincial election announcement.

In addition to this site, I also have a new PC Alberta campaign website at wendelin.votepc.ca

I welcome you to review either website - the content and links are the same  This site may have a few more pictures of our efforts so far.

Over the past weeks, I have been out in the community door knocking, speaking to groups and schools, as well as listening to individuals in the community about life in Calgary Fish Creek, their aspirations for our vibrant neighbourhoods and dreams of the future for themselves or their children.

In the coming weeks, I will work to reach as many people as I can by calling at doors, making phone calls, sharing materials and inviting individuals to send me emails.  And I have enjoyed when folks have stopped me on the street to introduce themselves, chat or even ask for signs for their lawns. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.

You are also welcome to drop my office in Lake Bonavista Promenade Mall on Bonaventure Drive.

A team of volunteers is working to ensure there is someone there to greet you, offer a coffee and answer questions.

Why I ran for the PC nomination?

Over my 30 year career, I have a demonstrated that I have a head for business and can get things done.  I have a track record as visionary leader, action oriented and enterprising business approach, strong communicator, solid financial manager and strategic thinker.

But I have also had a long time interest in politics and the impact of political decisions on communities and the economy.

Timing is critical when putting yourself forward for public office. I have looked forward to an opportunity when I could embrace a role in politics - a time when I had gained experience and perspective to be an effective representative for a constituency, as well as an change agent for a community.

The time is now at hand, and I am thrilled to have won the nomination for PC Alberta for Calgary Fish Creek.  We have now begun on our pre-election activity.

Our future election campaign office will be ready in the coming weeks and will be centrally located in the Lake Bonavista Promenade Mall on Lake Bonavista Drive.  We invite you to visit us, or welcome more volunteers as prepare for our campaign.

What is my most recent experience?

For the past 11 years I have been the Dean of the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University (MRU) - a transformational period in Mount Royal’s 100 year history.

I believe you need to be a visionary leader, exemplary communicator, good financial manager, as well as understand how to work with institutional policy and government to find success teaching 2,000 business students and leading a team of 200 faculty and staff in the School of Business. I have that experience.  I have a record of getting things done.

I believe that in today’s global economy, education and life long learning are critical to our economic and community prosperity. We need educated and skilled workers prepared to work in our province.

Through my work on a local, regional and nationals basis, I have insights into the post-secondary sector, along with an understanding of our Albertan K-12 education system.

Over the years, our entrepreneurial business community offered advice as well as financial support to the Bissett School of Business ensuring we were offering relevant and meaningful curriculum to over 2,000 business students.  As a result, I have had an inside perspective of our business community as I met with so many industry leaders in 11 years. Our dynamic energy sector continues to be driving force in our economic success.  But I have also witnessed the impact of the growing innovative technology sector and understand the meaningful work in the large nonprofit sector here in Calgary.

Why I did I run in Calgary Fish Creek?

I am a resident of Fish Creek and have enjoyed living in Parkland for over 11 years.

In the summer of 2000, my new job at MRU brought us to Calgary. We were immediately warmly welcomed by our new neighbours and have been ambassadors and advocates for our neighbourhood and the beauty of Fish Creek Park at our doorstep.

Calgary has proven itself as a vibrant and thriving western Canadian city.  We cannot imagine living anywhere else.

Where do I stand on issues?

I believe I have the experience to contribute to important provincial discussions on business and economic development, education, environment and health care. I want to be a change agent fostering an environment for vibrant communities.

As an Albertan, I believe we need to foster business and our economy, including our dynamic energy sector while recognizing our commitment to environmentally responsible resource development.

It is critical we ensure there are educated and skilled people ready to take a leading role in our economic future.  We need to foster an environment for innovation and business development.

We are fortunate to live in Calgary - a vibrant community.  With our enterprising spirit, we have the capacity to work together to transform and sustain communities across the province.  Planning for and understanding our cities and communities along with the infrastructure required for our growing population and economy are critical to our future.

Albertans have come to expect a quality health care service, and my experiences to date have only been positive.  But I recognize we are facing challenges.

There are increasing demands on our system due to changing demographics, rising costs and infrastructure investment. Witnessing the challenges of economies around the world, Albertans will need to balance fiscal responsibility with our growing needs for health care, public programs and efforts related to economic development.

A persistently large deficit is a significant problem for the government and the economy, so we need to have a disciplined approach to spending.

I have every confidence that our future will remain bright with committed people working on behalf of Albertans and their constituents.

What is my background?

Over my career, I have welcomed successive challenges to bring my enterprising spirit to build divisions in larger institutions based on sound business principles.  In the 80s, I welcomed separate opportunities to take on ‘intrapreneurial’ contract positions in institutions where I developed sustainable business divisions. They were lessons that served me well.

Several years ago, I brought an international organization to the Bissett School of Business that encourages post-secondary students to be engaged in social enterprise and community outreach.

The vision of that organization is:  “A head for business.  A heart for the world.”; it is a phrase that very much captures my own approach.

My interest in the political process began early and my parents led by example in getting us involved.  My parents also taught me the importance of citizenship - our responsibility to contribute to and give back to a community.  As a result, I have volunteered in organizations across the country over the past 35 years.

I am a proud to reflect the modelling of my optimistic parents who believe in fiscal responsibility, a strong work ethic and helping those less fortunate.

Why am I seeking your support?

I believe the people in Calgary Fish Creek need a representative who will listen to their concerns, work on their behalf and be available and consultative.

I am a committed Calgarian, a resident of Calgary Fish Creek and an advocate for our area.

As I worked to earn the PC Alberta Calgary Fish Creek nomination I tried to meet as many people as possible in our community.  Having been elected as the candidate, I have already begun door knocking in the door knocking in neighbourhoods.

Do not hesitate to contact me through the email or through phone numbers listed on the Contact page of this website.

I believe we need an MLA in Fish Creek who will have a voice at the table and represent us in government.  When the election is called, I will be seeking your vote.

Best regards,

Wendelin Fraser
